Affordable Care Act

It’s here.  It’s the law.  And contrary to all the noise from the right wing, there are some good things about it for people who are not lucky enough to get a great health insurance plan from their employer.

Where to find more information about the ACA, the Marketplace and health care coverage in Maine:

• The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) website:

Information on the ACA and the Marketplace is currently found here, starting October 1, 2013, plan choices in the Marketplace for Maine and an online application will be available at this website. A telephone helpline is also available, 24-hours, every day – 1-800-318-2596.

• Enroll207 ( provides access to Maine-based resources, including contact information for navigators around the state.

• The Consumers for Affordable Health Care (CAHC) HelpLine – for people who do not have health coverage, have problems with their current coverage or want more information about the ACA: 1-800-965-7476 (

• Maine Equal Justice – for MaineCare questions or problems: 866-626-7059 or 207- 626-7058 (

• Maine Area Agencies on Aging – for questions about Medicare, the Part D prescription drug program and the Medicare Savings Program (QMB, SLMB and QI): 877-353-3771 (This statewide number will connect you to the regional office near you.)

• Cover Maine Now – for information about on-going efforts to give almost 70,000 low income Mainers access to affordable health care:
